Tagamet(cimetidine) andZantac(ranitidinehydrochloride) arehistaminereceptorantagonists used to treat and prevent ulcers.

• agitation,
• breastswelling or tenderness (inmen),

• mental/mood changes (e.g., confusion, hallucinations),

Zantac (ranitidine hydrochloride) is a H2 (histamine-2) receptor blocker used for treating and preventing ulcers in theduodenumand stomach. Zantac is also used for treating:

• heartburn,
• erosiveesophagitis,
• and Zollinger Ellisonsyndrome.

Tagamet may interact withbloodthinners,clopidogrel,phenytoin,nifedipine,metronidazole,propranolol, chlordiazepoxide,lidocaine,diazepam,theophylline, depression oranxietymedications. Tell your doctor all medications you use.

Zantac may interact withketoconazole, atazanavir, and blood thinners such aswarfarin.

Zantac may also interact with triazolam, procainamide, riazolam, midazolam,glipizide, delavirdine, and gefitinib.

Dose of Tagamet depends on theconditionbeing treated and thepatient's response to themedication.

Zantac is available intablet, syrup, and injectable formulations.

• adults and children 12 years and over:
  • torelievesymptoms, swallow 1 tablet with a glass ofwater
  • topreventsymptoms, swallow 1 tablet with a glass of water30 to 60 minutes beforeeatingfoodor drinking beverages that cause heartburn
  • can be used up to twice daily (do not take more than 2 tablets in 24 hours)
• children under 12 years: ask a doctor
