PML:Stands for progressivemultifocalleukoencephalopathy, a rapidly progressive, often fatalviral infectionof the brain. Commonly abbreviated asPML.
PML is believed to be due to the Jacob-Creutzfeldt (JC) papovavirus. The virus infects oligodendrocytes (support cells in the brain).
