Definition of Middle ear

Middle ear:A part of theearthat consists of theeardrum(tympanic membrane) and, beyond it, a cavity (tympanum). This cavity is connected to the(nasopharynx) via a canal known as theEustachian tube. Themiddle earcavity also contains a chain of three little bones, the ossicles (themalleus,砧骨, andstapes), which connect the eardrum to theinternal ear. The middle ear communicates with the pharynx, equilibrates with external pressure, and transmits the eardrum vibrations to theinner ear.
