Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium) and Eliquis (apixaban) are blood thinners (anticoagulants) used to preventblood clotsand reduce the risk ofstrokeand systemicembolism.

Lovenox is also used to prevent blood vessel complications in people with certain types ofangina(chest pain) or heart attacks called non-Q-wavemyocardial infarctionor ST-segment elevation myocardialinfarction.

Common side effects of Lovenox include:

  • swelling in your hands or feet, or
  • injection site reactions (swelling, pain, bruising, or redness).

Eliquis (apixaban) is ananticoagulant(blood thinner) that reduces blood clotting and reduces the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvularatrial fibrillation.

Lovenox may interact withaspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and other medicines to prevent blood clots.

Lovenox may also interact with dextran.
