Felodipine

Felodipine is acalcium channel blockerused to treathypertension(high blood pressure).

• Felodipine is available under the following different brand names: Cabren, Cardioplen XL, Felendil XL, Felogen XL, Felotens XL, Keloc SR, Neofel XL, Plendil, Renedil, and Vascalpha.

Dosages of Felodipine:

Dosage Forms and Strengths

Tablets, extended-release

• 2.5 mg
• 5 mg
• 10 mg

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

Hypertension

Adult:

• Initial 2.5-5 mg orally once/day
• Maintenance: 2.5-10 mg orally once/day; some recommend up to 20 mg/day

Geriatric:

• 初始剂量:2.5毫克口服ce/day; dosage should be adjusted according to patient response, and any increase made at intervals of at least 2 weeks
• The maximum dosage is 10 mg orally once/day

Hypertension, Pediatric (Off-label)

• Initial: 2.5 mg orally once/day

Common side effects of felodipine include:

• Headache
• Flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling under your skin)
• Dizziness
• Fast heart rate
• Lightheadedness
• Stomach upset as your body adjusts to the medication

Other side effects of felodipine include:

• Gum inflammation
• Rash
• Upper respiratory infection
• Drowsiness
• Weakness
• Restlessness
• Nervousness
• Nausea
• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Stomach pain
• Sleep problems (insomnia)
• Joint pain or muscle cramps
• Urinating more than usual
• Cold symptoms such asstuffy nose, sneezing, andsore throat

Serious side effects of Plendil including:

• Swelling of the hands/ankles/feet (edema)
• Fast or irregular heartbeat

Warnings

This medication contains felodipine. Do not take Cabren, Cardioplen XL, Felendil XL, Felogen XL, Felotens XL, Keloc SR, Neofel XL, Plendil, Renedil, or Vascalpha if you are allergic to felodipine or any ingredients contained in this drug.

Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.

Cautions

• Congestiveheart failure(CHF),aortic stenosis,hypotension(initially or after dose increases), persistent progressivedermatologicreactions, exacerbation of angina (during initiation of treatment, after a dose increase, or withdrawal of beta-blocker), liver impairment.
• Patients with heart failure or compromisedventricularfunction (especially with beta-blocker).
• Avoid taking withgrapefruitjuice.
• Sustained-release product.

Pregnancy and Lactation

• Use felodipine with caution during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Animal studies show risk and human studies are not available or neither animal nor human studies were done.
• Felodipine excretion in milk is unknown. It is not recommended for use while breastfeeding.
