Chlorpheniramine/Pyrilamine/Phenylephrine

Chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrineis used to treatallergyand cold and flu symptoms such as runny orstuffy nose, sneezing, itching, watery eyes, andsinuscongestion.

Chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrineis available under the following different brand names: R-Tannate and Triplex AD Liquid.

Dosages of Chlorpheniramine/Pyrilamine/Phenylephrine:

• 8 mg-25 mg-25 mg
• 2 mg-5 mg-12.5 mg/5 mL
• 4 mg-10 mg-25 mg
• 2 mg-10 mg-10 mg/5 mL
• 2 mg-7.5 mg-12.5 mg/5 mL
• 2 mg-10 mg-10 mg
• 8 mg-15 mg-12.5 mg/5 mL

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

ForAllergic Rhinitisand Cold and Flu Symptoms

Chlorpheniramine/phenylephrine/pyrilamine 2 mg-7.5 mg-12.5 mg/5 mL:

• 5 to 10 mL orally every 4 to 6 hours not to exceed 60 mg of phenylephrine in 24 hours

扑尔敏/去甲肾上腺素/ pyrilamine 4 mg-10mg-25 mg oral tablet, extended-release:

• 1 tablet orally 2 to 3 times daily

Chlorpheniramine/phenylephrine/pyrilamine 8 mg-12.5 mg-15 mg/5 mL:

• 5 to 10 mL orally every 12 hours not to exceed 20 mL in 24 hours

Chlorpheniramine/phenylephrine/pyrilamine 2 mg-10 mg-10 mg oral tablet:

• 1 to 2 tablets orally every 4 to 6 hours.

Common side effects of chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine include:

• Nausea
• Constipation
• Loss of appetite
• Rash or itching
• Increased sweating
• Dry mouth, nose, or throat
• Blurred vision
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Restlessness or excitability (especially in children)

Serious side effects of chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine include:

• Confusion
• Hallucinations
• Nervousness
• Irritability
• Trouble sleeping
• Little or no urination
• Seizures (convulsions)
• Numbness or tingling
• Lightheadedness
• Pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest
• Increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, pounding in your neck or ears, anxiety,nosebleed)

Warnings

This medication contains chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine. Do not take R-Tannate or Triplex AD Liquid if you are allergic to chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine or any ingredients contained in this drug.

Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.

Contraindications

• Severecoronary artery disease,diabetes, overactivethyroid,asthma,pneumonia, or other breathing problems
• Use of amonoamine oxidase inhibitor(MAOI) in the past 14 days
• Children younger than 6 years old. Death can occur from the misuse of cough and cold medicines in very young children.

Cautions

• Chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine may impair thinking or reactions. Be careful driving or doing anything that requires alertness.
• Drinking alcohol with this medicine can cause side effects.
• Chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine can make you sunburn more easily. Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds.

Pregnancy and Lactation

It is not known whether chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine will harm a fetus. Consult your doctor before using chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine if you are pregnant.

Chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine passes into breast milk and may cause side effects in the nursing baby.Antihistaminescan also slow breast milk production. Breastfeeding is not recommended while using chlorpheniramine/pyrilamine/phenylephrine.
