Definition of ADH (antidiuretic hormone)

抗利尿激素(antidiuretic hormone):Apeptidemoleculethat is released by thepituitary gland底部的brainafter being made nearby (inthehypothalamus).抗利尿激素has an antidiuretic action that prevents the production of dilute尿液(and so is antidiuretic).

Asyndromeof inappropriate secretion of ADH may occur inassociationwith oat-celllung cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, and Hodgkin'sdiseaseas well as a number of other disorders. The inappropriate secretion of ADH results in the inability to put out dilute urine, perturbs fluid (and electrolyte)balance, and causes nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, confusion and convulsions. ADH also can stimulatecontractionof arteries andcapillaries. ADH is also known asvasopressin.
